A showcasing of four exquisite exhibits of couture jewelry at AKM Mehrasons was an ornamental delight. The event conceptualized by Somya Khurana, the collections were aptly titled The Benaras Collection, The Jharokha Collection, The Marigold Collection, and The of Life Collection.
 
 
 
The Benaras Collection is an attempt to capture the timeless multi-layered essence of Benaras and to interpret it for today’s generation. The collection seeks inspiration from Benarasi brocades and other enduring symbols.
 
 
The Jharokha Collection features opulence and grandeur. The motifs of the Jharokha subtly blend like a silhouette on to each one of our modern day designs. With smoothly-finished round accents, the fine diamond slivers help fashion an inimitable style of mosaic. The pink gold chosen for the collection recreates the old glory of sand stone.
 
 
The Marigold Collection lends every event an air of piety and auspiciousness. And its colour is a deep orange – the colour of renunciation. Over fifty Marigold petals were cast in gold and discarded, until the final eight were found which form the base of their Marigold collection.
 
 
The Tree of life collection reflects the yearning for our roots, where each piece is a uniquely contemporary interpretation of ethnicity. Each piece is testimony of the quest for that ultimate feeling of contentment.

The twenty winners of the first Benetton global casting were welcomed in New York with a cocktail party, also attended by Alessandro Benetton at the Standard Hotel's renowned “Boom Boom Room”.
 
 
The winners featuring from all over the world are to feature in the Benetton autumn-winter 2010 campaign to be shot by the world famous photographer Josh Olins at the Industria Superstudio in the Meatpacking District. The winners participating in the event will be appearing in the press, on the internet and on billboards around the world.
 
 
The casting attracted entries from all corners of the globe, drawing interest from 217 different countries: from Ethiopia to Zimbabwe, from Nepal to Uzbekistan, from Guatemala to Cambodia to Iceland. Countries with the strongest participation included Turkey, India, Mexico and Russia amongst others. More than 17,000 teenagers took part in the event.

The Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai, was high on electricity as it witnessed a glittering night of fashion, glamour & sophistication. A preview of the Spring Summer Collection 2010 by Lavin, Stella McCartney and Moshchino by KITSH Kouture set the air ablaze while the power couples of Mumbai looked on. The 'I am She' Miss Universe 2010 contestants showcased the collection which added to the charm of the mesmerizing evening.

The evening saw the crème de la crème of the city attending the event in their great grandeur such as Farha & Aqueel Khan, Sushmita Sen, Queenie Dhody, Atul & Gayatri Ruia, Natasha & Adar Poonawalla, Chaya Momaya, Tania Deol and many more.

The elegant favorites in the collection included dresses with hand painted roses in vibrant colors by Stella McCartney, the suit with pearl trim by Moschino and the flowy jumpsuits from Lanvin.

A New Fine Dining Destination in the E-City

The air was electrifying at the relaunch of Connexions Bar and Aloro restaurant at the Crowne Plaza Bengaluru Electronics City, a landmark hotel of the Intercontinental Hotels Group. Celebrating a new menu and a new beginning, the party saw a number of food lovers feast on the Italian pizzas and the free-flowing wine.
 
 
 
 
 
 
The party was attended by quite a a good number of foreigners and local celebrities, who were all praise for the cocktails and the Italian delectables. Satya Paul celebrated 25 years of fashion, showcasing 'Maya', a much appreciated collection by designer Puneet Nanda. The designer line was displayed at the Dubai Fashion Week with Jumeirah Tower being the official venue.

The collection that was a mix of Indian and Indo-western garments, saw a good number of people applauding in appreciation during the event. The fabrics for the collection had been woven to bring out the elegance and shine effervescently to hint towards the multi-layered print and embroidered effects that had been created. They all were pieces of art in their own right. The materials used ranged from the simple sequins to exotic stones and crystal sourced from around the world.

Colombian Food Festival

Renowned hotel Jaypee Vasant Continental came into collaboration with the Columbian Embassy in the last week of April to celebrate 200 years of Colombian Independence with the First Colombian Gastronomic Festival 2010. The event was held at Eggspectation at the Vasant Continental.

Established chefs Patricia Soto and Edgar Mora from Colombia whipped up a mouthwatering range of delicacies using conventional recipes and contemporary serving styles.

With taste bud tantalizing offerings such as the Muss de maracuyá con biscocho de aguardiente(Passion fruit mousse soaked in anise flavored sponge) and Potato empanadas, accompanied by a range of exotic natural juices, the festival was truly a gastronomic delight.

The festival was also marked by vibrating music, stunning dance performances and a truly Colombian setting.

 

Leena Bidani - The Collector's Delight

The opening of Baba Anand's show titled 'The Major Arcana' was celebrated with panache by Religare Arts.i. The work of art is a concoction of Baba's love for Tarot and his profoundness towards Salvador Dali telling tales about Dali's world through Baba's vision.

The show was attended by many art lovers and critics including Madhu Trehan, Ritu Singh, Gunitaa Sodhii, Sabbah Sheikh, Nitya and Mahesh Bahrany, Shagun Khanna, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna, Artist Sanjay Bhattacharya, renowned theatre personality Naseer Abdullah, Nisha Singh, Amol Vadehra, Jyotika Jhalaniwith daughterKarishma, Vivek Shni, Hemant Sagar, Kusum Sawhney, Sheena Baig amongst many others.
